New regulations for the transport of lithium batteries and dangerous goods in international aviation, adding requirements for sodium-ion batteries!

In October 2024, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) published the 66th edition of the DGR (Dangerous Goods Regulations) and from 1 January 2025, the 66th edition of the IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR) and the 12th edition of the Lithium Battery Shipping Regulations (LBSR) came into force.

From 1 January 2026, lithium-ion batteries packed with equipment and vehicles powered by lithium-ion batteries will need to be transported by air with the batteries in a lower state of charge. These changes have been adopted by ICAO and incorporated into the 2025-2026 edition of the Technical Instructions for the Safe Transport of Dangerous Goods by Air (Technical Instructions).
